BIO

Punchlove is an NYC-based shoegaze and experimental pop noise band formed by musicians and audio engineering students Jillian Olesen (vocals/guitar) and Ethan Williams (vocals/guitar). Connecticut natives Ethan and Jillian began writing music together as a response to being sent home from the Czech Republic where they had been living abroad at the onset of COVID-19. The duo later expanded to include Joey Kinnan (synths/guitar), Wil Ren (bass), Ian Lange-McPherson (drums) and Max Collura (visuals). Jillian and Ethan self-recorded and produced their debut EP “Terminal” in its entirety, which was released in March 2021. Their latest release, "Solstice // Ghost" was also self-produced and released in September 2021.

Punchlove played their first NYC show in August 2021 to a sold-out crowd at The Bowery Ballroom, alongside Blonde Otter. They have since played headlining shows at venues around NYC, including The Knitting Factory, The Broadway, and in October 2021, they also sold out Mercury Lounge. They we're listed as one of Oh My Rockness' "Bands We Like" and have received recognition from The Deli Magazine, Secret Meeting UK, Bands Do BK, and Under the Radar Magazine for their "blinding" New Colossus Festival set in March 2022. Comprised entirely of NYU audio engineering students, Punchlove is dedicated to pushing the envelope of experimental sonic practices in live performances, integrating elements of radio frequency indeterminacy, real-time reactive MAX/MSP/Jitter visuals, noise manipulation, use of pleasure devices as instruments, audio synthesis via electromagnetic tape and early synthesizer, as well as elements of 3D audio in current projects, all with the goal of creating a fully immersive, fuzzy, and psychedelic sound experience.
